Angels Series

Kind of like a new X-men except in "Angel form."  I am not sure what to do with these ideas. They are not really stories, just things that came to me, and then I wrote them down - short story format. I think it has the potential to become something tangible and worth something...graphic novel maybe, but in this stage, I think I am trying to pin down the characters, and events that could occur in a world with these rules.  I also want to give them a new name...angels somehow doesn't quite fit. This is how it starts:

AT THE BEACH
A woman with a scarf covering her head stands peering over the beach scouring each person on the sand carefully. She wears dark sunglasses to protect her eyes from the sun. She felt it. She knows that one of THEM is near. She has felt it only once before at the revealing. She shudders at the memory. Alas, not any of the people on the beach was what she was looking for. The feeling has left. Damn. Too late. But one day, she will find one of them and let them know of their fate just as she learned five years ago. But for now…the woman removes her scarf and sunglasses. She hops and gracefully ascends into the sky for what lifts her up are two white wings stretching longer. They begin to wrap around her like a cocoon and the woman disappears. No one on the beach notices her sudden disappearance. They are too busy playing beach volleyball. Only one man from a nearby apartment building stands from his balcony, squinting at the empty sky. He is blinded by the high sun.

INTRODUCTORY LESSON #1
Look you can’t just spot them. Each individual is different. It is in the plan that all of creation is different. For example, you have a distinct aura. Your glow can be so bright, sometimes it hurts my eyes to look at you even at night. Some of them don’t even have auras. Yet for some reason, here you are as bright as bright can be. That is something that you need to figure out, your purpose, because you are not ordinary. You’re an Angeli. Just like I am an Angeli. How long have I been an Angeli? Two thousand years. Of course it is possible. My dear, you need to learn that there are Angeli that have been around since the age of creation. They can live and die. They can be good or turn evil. Yes, no one is born evil…my my my. This is going to take a little longer than I thought. You’re an inquisitive one. Let’s take this slowly. I know that you are just getting used to your new…life. I think that you will enjoy it. We’ll meet again, and we shall take it from where we left off. Yes, yes, don’t you worry. I will find you.

THE SWIM MEET
Tom wakes up and slowly stretches. The area around his shoulders has been aching lately. He massages that tender area carefully. Hm, must be the swimming. I’ll have to take it a little easier next time. Tom goes to the bathroom and brushes his teeth. He sees his reflection in the mirror. Over night, he seemed to have grown more muscle mass. With the toothbrush still hanging from his mouth, Tom feels his biceps and shoulders. He flexes his pectorals. A little drool escapes and plops into the sink. Tom is awakened from his awe and finishes brushing his teeth. Well, swimming wasn’t such a bad idea after all. Maybe he’ll go five times a week instead of his usual three

INTRODUCTORY LESSON #2
Yes, thank you I know all the scientific reasoning behind twilight. I may be an Angeli, but I’ve been educated with this current science which is by the way phenomenal and backwards at the same time. But let me share with you the Angeli reasoning behind twilight. The air that we all breathe is the same except when Angeli expels the air into the atmosphere, the composition changes. We need special…provisions in order to perform the things we do. Inside our bodies, we take what we need and transform it into compounds that doesn’t exist in your dictionary of discovered science. These compounds have waste products that get released into the air. When the sun’s power hits these particles they burst into all sorts of colors that blend in with the sky until there are no more. Twilight is an angeli sigh, a long exhale and then no more. When you truly understand this, then you can truly appreciate its beauty and complexity. How come your scientists have never discovered these special particles? I guess that is why we call the Angeli way undiscovered science because how can you find what you do not seek. How can you recognize what you are looking at when you can only see it through what people tell you? You look at blood cells and see red and white. But I tell you there are Angeli blood cells that are blue. But you will not know the difference because no one has told you that until now. Look into a microscope the next time you have a chance, and then tell me that you do not see the blue blood cells. And what is their function? Their function---well, maybe you should tell me.

LIFE LINES
I can see bands of string on every person. They are so thin and fragile. Some have more than others and are deeply entwined. Some I thought didn’t have a single one, but upon closer examination, they were just harder to spot quickly. I remember talking to my brother about the strings, and he hit me so hard on side of my head in response that I never brought it up to anyone as a child. My ex-girlfriend, Linda, was the only person I ever mentioned it to afterwards. I looked into her eyes and knew that I had to share with her my greatest secret.

“Did you know that you are covered in string?”

She just playfully slapped at me and said, “Oh, you. What are you talking about, Michael?”

And that stung.

No one believes me, but I see them. I can sometimes feel them, and I don’t know why people don’t realize that they’re there. Even on dead people, there are these tiny threads that seem to sprout out of no where. I must have a gift, but whether it is a blessing or a burden, I am not sure.

Angels must have planted these strings to announce with one gentle breeze from their lips that they are here amongst us humans.

I have spent 40 years thinking about them, these threads, and I will probably think about them until the day I die.

---So there are more stories that I've been adding on. I look for all sorts of inspiration...man who fell asleep on the way home from the late shift, my first experience with contacts, etc. I welcome any other input and things that would help shape this world and the people who live it.
